Topsfield-Mrs. Ruth B. (Southard) Witten, formerly of Saugus & Chelsea, age 98, died on Saturday at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Franklin H. Witten.
Born in Chelsea and raised in Saugus since 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Mary A. (Pattee) Southard. A graduate of Saugus High School, class of 1936, she attended Burdett College in Boston. She was a member of the Saugus High School Alumni Association, the Saugus Council of Aging and the Brig. Gen. James Brickett-Old Newbury Chapter NSDAR.
Mrs. Witten is survived by her children; Paula Howard and her husband Ronald, Franklin Witten, Jr. of TX, Ronald Witten (Ret. SPD) and his wife Margaret, Carole Seward and her late husband Thomas, Gail Cassarino and her husband Anthony, Wendy Renda and her husband Eric, 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren & many nieces & nephews. She was the sister of the late Ernest Southard & Charles H. Southard and grandmother of the late Kim Poland & Timothy Witten.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours will be held in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., SAUGUS, on Tuesday 4-8 p.m. A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., SAUGUS, at 10:30. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Saugus.
