Lynn - Mr. Leander “Lee” A. Maes, age 64, died suddenly on Monday evening, September 16th of a heart attack at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem. He was the loving son of Jeanette Maes and the late Raymond A. Maes of Lynn.

Born and raised in Lynn, Leander started his teaching career at the American School in Mexico City, Mexico, working there for three years. He then went on to teach at schools in Lynn, starting at Lynn English in 1977, North Reading and Saugus. Lee was a high school tennis coach for 18 years. He spent the past 25 years teaching in Saugus at the Belmonte Middle School before his retirement. Overall, Lee spent 41 years in the teaching profession. He served as the past Vice President of the Saugus Teachers Union and was on the board of directors of the Saugus Historical Society.

In addition to his mother, Leander is survived by his two daughters, Heather Maes of Salem and Natalie Maes of Hamilton; his significant other, Anne Richeson of Chevy Chase, Maryland; two brothers, Brian Maes and his wife MaryBeth and James Maes and his wife Shelley all of Lynn; two nieces Madeline and Regina Maes.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Saugus Historical Society, 30 Main St., Saugus, MA 01906.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., SAUGUS on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in Sacred Heart Church, 571 Boston St., Lynn at 10:30 a.m. Interment Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton.
