SAUGUS, formerly of Malden - Mrs. Bertha E. (Barter) Melanson, age 92, died on Monday, October 9th at the Bear Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Wakefield. She was the wife of the late George A. Melanson.
Born in Malden, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha (Wells) Barter. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Saugus. Mrs. Melanson was an avid reader, especially mysteries and she was a crossword puzzle master. She had been a resident of Saugus since 1960.
Mrs. Melanson leaves three loving children, Albert Melanson and his wife Barbara of Stoneham, Janice Merrithew and her husband William of Saugus, Scott Melanson and his wife Maria DeModena of Saugus; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, William Barter of FL; one sister, Bess Rikeman of Lynnfield. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Earl Barter and sister Nancy Doucette.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., SAUGUS on Sunday, 2-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 9 a.m. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
